What is MCT Oil

MCT oil is a common substance used not only in the kitchen, but also in Cativa CBD products due to the plethora of uses.

What is MCT Oil?

In order to understand what MCT oil is; the abbreviation MCT must be explained first. MCT stands for medium chain triglycerides. A triglyceride is a type of fatty acid that can be found in your body naturally. The reason that the medium length is desired is because their size makes them easier to metabolized by your digestive system and converted into energy.

How is MCT Oil Made?

MCT oil can be extracted from a number of sources, but it is most commonly extracted from coconut oil. In order for this to be done, the coconut oil goes through a process called fractionation. This process consists of separating out the different forms of fatty acids via boiling points. Once the fatty acids are separated the medium chain triglycerides can be collected and then used in products or taken by itself.

What are the benefits of MCT Oil?

MCT oil is known for having beneficial effects on metabolism. This is because the specific length of the chain of fatty acids allows MCT oil to be broken down and used by your body more efficiently than other forms of fatty acids. Another great benefit of MCT Oil is the fatty acids in it have antifungal as well as antibacterial properties.

MCT oil is the foundation of many Cativa CBD products including our CBD tinctures and roll-on oils. Learn more about each CBD oil product.
