CBD with THC vs. Without: What Is the Difference?

The cannabis industry is growing every day as both CBD and THC products become more and more mainstream. In just 2020 alone, researchers saw a 33% increase in industry growth from the year prior. With that growth comes a new range of products to try. Many helpful natural compounds can be found within hemp plants. Among these are cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Though they have a few similarities, there are important differences between the two.

What Is CBD?

CBD is different from THC in that it lacks the psychoactive effects associated with the latter. CBD isolate is THC free. CBD is derived directly from the hemp plant, which is closely related to the marijuana plant, though it can be extracted from both. Additionally, CBD can be used to enhance one’s well being and soothe aches and pains. Though the research on the subject is always expanding, there are a wide range of reasons people choose to take CBD oil or enjoy CBD-infused products.

There are no serious side effects for CBD unless it is used in conjunction with certain medications. Cativa CBD encourages curious users to consult their doctor if they are concerned about possible interactions with existing medications.

What is THC?

THC is best known for its brain-altering properties. How THC will affect someone varies from person to person. THC is best known for its psychoactive and euphoric effects. Both CBD and THC are found in the Cannabis sativa plant. However, you won’t get high from the THC associated with Cativa products, as THC found in our CBD+ line (made with lab-tested full-spectrum CBD) all falls below 0.3%. Whether you use THC-free CBD isolate cream or CBD+, you’re sure to have a relaxing experience.

What Is Full-Spectrum CBD?

According to Medical News Today, full-spectrum CBD is CBD that contains trace amounts of THC. Specifically, a product described as “full spectrum” should contain less than 0.3% of tetrahydrocannabinol as per Food and Drug Administration regulations. This means that for CBD users without restrictions, you might feel a slightly stronger effect when using one of our CBD+ products

What Do CBD and THC Have in Common?

According to Healthline, “Both CBD and THC have the exact same molecular structure: 21 carbon atoms, 30 hydrogen atoms, and 2 oxygen atoms.” However, it’s the arrangement of this molecular structure that causes its unique effects on your brain. Each arrangement can affect your neurotransmitter's ability to control pain, immune function, stress, and sleep. Your body is already equipped with endocannabinoids, and ingesting either THC or CBD can affect your individual cannabinoid receptors, making for two distinct experiences.

The experience of using these compounds is similar, though distinct in their intensity. Both CBD and THC are typically used for relaxation or for medicinal purposes, but CBD is distinctive in that it lacks psychoactive properties.

For most people, the differences between CBD with THC vs. without lie in how they feel.
